this is how it started focuses heavily on the early days of the chicago sound, especially in the formative years at ron hardy s music box.
following chicago s disco demolition night in 1979 the genre s popularity fell dramatically, hence fewer disco records being released.in this era chicago s djs such as hot mix 5, hardy, knuckles & jesse saunders played a variety of styles mixing in italo, electronic pop music, electro-funk and older disco joints often playing their own edits which focusing on the portions of the songs which always rocked the dancefloor. at the end of 1982, when dj frankie knuckles left the warehouse to open the power plant, ron hardy started to dj at the warehouse s new location until owner robert williams renamed it the music box. in 1984, a local label released a 12-inch single called -on and on- by locals jesse saunders & vince lawrence who had simple made the song in order to replace a record which had been stolen from saunders collection, the -on & on- bootleg disco megamix by mach. hence chicago house music was born and a modern day phenomenon followed.

for the a-side, fuse london resident antony difrancesco joins forces with dutch born ferro and opens up with the aggressive and hypnotic -des-, with its tough drums and mesmerising pads. next up is tini and the gang- regular, crocodile soup, who brings his deeper side into action on these shoes are made for walking , a track that is elastic and seductive and expertly arranged. david gtronic s signature drums and trippy pads then mark a stunning opening to the b-side on down the burrow and last but not least, he did closes the vinyl with -algunas palabras , a track with a mixture of minimalistic and natural sounds that make for compelling listening and perfectly showcase the he did sound. this is a classy ep from a label that the world needs to get behind as they continue to grow.

we are artists with an inward perspective that toil endlessly to perfect our technique. we have proven ourselves over time as leaders of a beat less traveled. in this time of followers and cheap hustlers we are the oddities outside mainstream dogma. we are the heroes of cryovac. the rat pack of cryovac are keith kemp, kero, a. garcia, and kimyon huggins. we are a detroit based collective that come together from our personal projects to share our broad view of what techno is. keith provides a driving minimal sickness that builds and fades with dark intent. while kero relies on a random modular approach that is corralled by 4/4 beating. a. garcia produces a rocker that is driven by dirty soulful tones and choppy vocals. kimyon takes us out with a computer rhythm that is mixed down with straight human soul. this vinyl represents a combined effort of artists and craftsmen working together to bring this idea to life.
